The Grip of Fear

rockfar.jpg (139896 bytes)

Froghead, a typical climb in New Paltz, New York.

If you look closely, you will see a climber, Tony Scordino, leading this climb. Tony is the first one up the route and he places "protection" in the rock to anchor his rope in the event of a fall. He is belayed by another climber who is at the base of the climb; that climber's job is to keep tension on the rope and lock it off in the event of a fall.

This picture illustrates the size of a classic New Paltz climb and rappel as described in "The grip of Fear."
